Conditions for Repentance in Islam
When a person performs tawbah with sincerity and devotion, Allah accepts it, according to Sharia (Islamic law). The tawbah is made up of six parts:
1. to be sorry for one’s evil deed.
2. To perform saintly duties that have been neglected.
3. To reclaim rights and property obtained unfairly from others.
4. Seeking forgiveness from those who have been treated unfairly by you.
5. Accepting responsibility for avoiding future wrongdoing, and
6. To keep himself/herself in Allah’s good graces.
Tawbah is a two-edged technique that requires a person to recognize his or her error and abandon it in order to seek Allah’s forgiveness. A faithful person perceives his sins as if he were sitting beneath a mountain that he is afraid will collapse on him, said Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
